Chic by Colin Cowie

Colin Cowie is a well known lifestyle expert. I just got his book Chic and it was worth every penny. There is information on living a great life and taking time to appreciate your life. An important message of Mr. Cowie’s is to use your fine china and stemware or anything else that you truly love as often as possible. I agree that life is too short to leave all those beautiful things sitting on a shelf collecting dust. This book contains information on entertaining, setting up your home, organizing your kitchen, decorating, recipes, hosting guests, travel. There are also lists on must have items for your kitchen etc. This book is well written and it appeals to both people of all ages.

Entertaining by Martha Stewart

Get Entertaining by Martha Stewart, the book that started it all. Even though it was written some time ago the recipes continue to be innovative and unique. Martha shares many secrets and tricks of the trade that will help you impress your guests not only with the food but with the ambiance of your party.

Entertaining

I love to entertain and feel that there are little things that you can do to take an evening from ordinary to extraordinary.  Most guests love simple homemade food with high quality ingredients.  They should be familiar with most of the menu and I usually try to work in one thing that they may not have had before or make something a little differently than people are accustomed to.  Dessert is often what sets apart a meal and is more likely to be remembered than the entree considering it is served last.  With entertaining, it is actually the small gestures that make an impact.  For instance, taking the time to make (or purchase) a centerpiece and setting a beautiful table instantly tells your guests that you are pleased they have joined you.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that the host sets the tone for the party.  If you have fun, that your guests will invariably have fun as well.  Please share your questions and thoughts on our blog.
